Greek-American artist Saint Kyriaki turns an intimate family moment into a thrilling cross-continental experiment on ‘Wild Woman Greek Isles’.
The single began during an afternoon in Greece with Saint Kyriaki’s 96-year-old grandmother, Gia Gia. After discovering a performance on Greek television, she eventually connected with Athens producer Starious, sending him raw a cappella spoken-word recordings from Detroit.
But instead of fitting those vocals around an existing instrumental, Starious worked backwards, treating Saint Kyriaki’s rhythmic delivery as the foundation and constructing an entirely new electronic landscape around it. The result collides frantic rhythms with atmospheric textures and theatrical spoken-word storytelling.
Raised amid the influence of Motown and Detroit’s electronic underground, she brings those foundations into contact with international club culture and her Greek heritage.
‘Wild Woman Greek Isles’ is frantic, deeply personal and brilliantly unconventional; transforming one spontaneous family afternoon into something built for speakers thousands of miles away.
