Norwegian artist MONNE plunges into a whirlwind of racing thoughts and restless imagination on ‘Jack in the Box’, a striking new single that pushes her cinematic folk-pop into darker, more experimental territory.
Right from the start, the track looks to transform an overactive mind into its own surreal landscape. Train tracks, mechanical rhythms, clowns and the song’s titular jack-in-the-box become symbols for thoughts multiplying uncontrollably, as one small worry gathers momentum until it feels almost impossible to stop.
Written and composed by MONNE, the single combines organic instrumentation with synths and electronic textures, building a playful yet wonderfully uneasy soundworld around her distinctive vocals.
The track will also provide the musical foundation for a surrealist animated short film, while forthcoming album ‘From the Ashes We Will Grow – Part One’ continues its themes of transformation.
