East London outfit Between Suns return with their latest single, ‘My Kinda Devil’, a brooding and cinematic track that brings together driving alternative rock, psychedelic textures and understated violin to create something restless and immersive.

Recorded at Livingston Studios with acclaimed producer Nick Tauber, known for his work with Thin Lizzy and UFO, the new single offers another glimpse into the band’s richly layered approach to songwriting. Swirling guitar tones and atmospheric strings sit alongside pounding drums and bass, building a wide-ranging sound that constantly shifts between tension, melody and expansive psychedelic passages.

At the heart of the track is French vocalist Nausicaä, whose operatic delivery moves between striking power and moments of exposed vulnerability. Her voice provides a dramatic focal point for a song that draws on a broad musical palette, taking in theatrical rock, post-punk, 1970s psychedelia and progressive rock without settling comfortably into any one genre.

The inspiration behind ‘My Kinda Devil’ comes from the world of literary fantasy, with the band drawing on the work of author Michael Moorcock. As Between Suns explain:

“My Kinda Devil is loosely inspired by a Michael Moorcock book called “the war hound and the world’s pain”, recounting the story of mercenary Ulrich Von Beck who strikes a bargain with Lucifer during the Thirty Years’ War to find the Holy Grail, in exchange for his soul.

The song was written around the intro bass line, and evolved into a “short story” and a bit of a journey. Was the second song recorded at Livingston studios with Nick Tauber (long time supporter and collaborator of the band). This song, like most of the upcoming album, was written during lockdown.”

That sense of narrative is reflected in the music itself. Rather than following a straightforward rock structure, the track develops like a journey, with its central bass line providing an anchor as guitars, strings and vocals gradually build the atmosphere around it.

The band’s lineup brings together a similarly varied set of musical influences and talents. Alongside Nausicaä’s distinctive vocals, guitarist and composer-songwriter Paul Lisak provides much of the band’s soaring guitar work and intricate melodic detail. He is joined by his son, Illia Lisak, on bass and cello, while his daughter Sofia Lisak contributes violin. Reuben Rost completes the lineup on drums.

Together, they have developed a sound that thrives on contrast. Darker, more frantic passages give way to moments of harmony and restraint, while densely layered arrangements create an unpredictable quality that keeps the music moving forward.

That approach has helped Between Suns establish a growing following on the London live circuit, with the band building a reputation for immersive performances. With ‘My Kinda Devil’ now out and further material on the horizon, the group are heading towards a busy end to 2026.

Between Suns are Nausicaa on lead vocals, Paul Lisak on guitar and composition, Sofia Lisak on violin, Illa Lisak on bass and cello, and Reuben Rost on drums.

The band will play Paper Dress Vintage in London on 2 October 2026, followed by a show at Strongroom in London on 11 December 2026.
