Ruby Cannon has made great strides in breaking into the music industry this year. Her place in Melbourne’s surf rock scene was solidified after she performed with HAIM, Phoebe Bridgers, and many others at the Laneway Festival back in February.
Written during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Melbourne experienced the toughest lockdown rules, her debut extended play consists of four tracks. Ruby Cannon wrote the songs three years ago on an acoustic guitar. These songs became popular in their new home after her band was formed.
Ruby Cannon draws inspiration from artists such as Rolling Stones, Velvet Underground, and Fleetwood Mac. The EP blends 70s sound, surf-rock, indie, and desert sounds with a positive and upbeat feeling that permeates every song. The songs are produced with bass guitar, drums, synths, electric and acoustic guitars, as well as her mesmerizing vocals.
On the song, Ruby Cannon says, “I’m so excited to be finally releasing music that really feels like me, these songs are the sound I’ve been trying to find for a long time.
