Texas singer-songwriter Celeste Marie Wilson turns a night at a local honky-tonk into pointed social observation on her new single ‘Jesus, Tequila, and Whiskey’.
Drawing inspiration from the classic storytelling spirit of ‘Harper Valley PTA’, she examines the gap between the values people publicly champion and the choices they make behind closed doors. Saturday-night drinking, gambling and gossip rub against Sunday-morning religion, giving her plenty of material for a song that approaches hypocrisy with humour rather than outright hostility.
Its accompanying video brings the idea vividly to life inside a neon-lit Texas bar. One supposedly devout character spends his evening drinking, gambling and fighting before appearing in a church confessional the following morning, apparently ready to repeat the cycle the next weekend.
Raised in East Texas, Celeste Marie Wilson combines Southern rock, pop and jazz influences with character-led songwriting and a powerful vocal presence. Her growing profile recently earned her three honours at the Texas State Songwriters Championship, including Most Soulful Sound and Most Original Style, alongside a third-place overall finish.
