Belfast multi-instrumentalists Rebecca Dow and David Sloan step confidently into a new creative era with their absorbing debut collaboration ‘Beneath You’.
Having previously been part of Belfast shoegaze outfit Virgins, the pair are wasting little time establishing an identity beyond their former project. ‘Beneath You’ retains an appreciation for texture and atmosphere but pushes those instincts somewhere darker and more cinematic, surrounding its evocative storytelling with an immersive, shadowy backdrop.
It’s an exciting opening statement from two musicians entering particularly fertile creative territory. Dow is currently writing and recording material across five separate projects, with collaboration becoming increasingly central to her outlook.
Dark, emotive and beautifully atmospheric, ‘Beneath You’ introduces a compelling new Belfast collaboration with considerable potential. And with further material already taking shape, this looks to be only the beginning.
