Q&A: Lennixx

Swedish R&B duo Lennixx have been making waves with their soulful sounds since their mixtape dropped last year. Taking time out from crafting their infectious R&B tunes, Hanna Larsson and Andrea Kallström recently sat down with us to chat about finding inspiration, toxic relationships and their favourite karaoke song.

Hey Hanna & Andrea, thanks for taking the time to speak to us!

You dropped your debut mixtape late last year, how have you found all the support so far?

We have found the support amazing! We think that we have finally shown what we are about and what we actually do nowadays. The support for the music has been fantastic and it’s so fun when people find it interesting because it’s something different. Like, we have been accepted for our sound and who we are as artists.

‘Bad Bird’ is a sultry blend of R&B and scandi-pop, how would you best describe your sound?

We don’t specifically search for a genre when we make our music, it’s more something that happens naturally. As soon as we actually started to write our own music, we found a style and sound that works for us. What we appreciate when we listen to artists is more an R&B, neo-soul sort of vibe, and we try to incorporate that in our music as well. It’s never limited to a specific genre it’s more about inspiration. We also feel like our voices and our ID really works best with this type of sound.

The track is about a toxic relationship coming to an end, what’s the main message behind the song?

It’s about not wasting your time on people who don’t care about you for real, like it’s more on the surface. When you have your true friends, you shouldn’t listen to people who talk shit.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

When you write lyrics, you get inspiration from life, friends and your own experiences. We get really inspired when we are trying to find new sounds and evolve in our songwriting. Sounds that make your real feelings come through.

You both met at a young age, has that helped to develop the musical bond between you both?

It has helped us in the way that we are really comfortable and honest with each other. There was something that made us choose to do it together in the beginning, like we can search freely together in what we want to do musically and be totally straightforward.

Hanna, your sister is also a well-known artist (Zara Larsson), was your childhood musically orientated?

No not really. We were never a family who played music together or listened to music a lot. I had to find my own way with music, like compared to what Zara did, and she had to find her way in the beginning. We didn’t really get our characteristics in music from our childhood.

Your instagram is full of stunning images of you both, are visuals an important aspect to your music?

Yes, very much. We think it’s really important because the visuals are a part of who you are as an artist. We care a lot about that. Since we stand behind everything we do musically we want the aesthetics to relate to the music – just so it makes sense and shows who we actually are. Like all our favourite artists have great visuals and aesthetics, it’s something we appreciate so much. If you like an artist, you want the whole package.

What’s next for Lennixx?

We are releasing more music soon, first another single and then maybe an EP… We are also doing a lot of shows, both in Sweden and in the U.K, just to evolve more during live shows.

Finally, what’s your go-to karaoke song?

Hanna: ABBA – Voulez-Vous

Andrea: Spice Girls – Wannabe

Thank you so much for speaking to us, ‘Bad Bird’ is incredible and we hope to catch you on tour soon!

Thank you so much! And thank you for your kind words about ’Bad Bird’.
