Mýa is celebrating a major new chapter with ‘Give It to You’, a vibrant collaboration with D-Nice taken from her tenth studio album ‘Retrospect’.
D-Nice opens the track as host of the fictional ‘Retrospect Live’, transporting listeners back to 1985 through references to block parties, roller skates, funk and soul. Mýa then takes centre stage with a confident, playful performance built around knowing exactly what she wants and having no hesitation in saying it.
Remarkably, Mýa originally wrote and recorded ‘Give It to You’ in 2016 before revisiting it a decade later for ‘Retrospect’. And that history feels particularly fitting for an album built around looking backwards while moving forward.
Its accompanying video also pushes the nostalgic atmosphere further, taking over Venice Beach with inspiration from the Minneapolis sound, Prince, Jam & Lewis, Vanity 6 and the cult dance film Breakin’.
The single arrives during a busy period for Mýa, with ‘Retrospect’ marking her first studio album in eight years and a new worldwide representation deal with WME opening another chapter in an already remarkable career.
