Mississauga-hailing songstress has something special to share. Following the release of her self-titled LP and armed with a repertoire of sweet, sweet R&B comes a trip hop and electronic-infused 4 track-EP. The artist’s latest project ‘Time Spent Running’ is produced and recorded with love, and released independently for your listening ears.
Having already offered up a fresh take on wondrously alternative r&b sounds with ‘Another’ earlier this month, ‘Time Spent Running’ is packed with divine, feminine energy, as the unique talent’s continued journey of self-discovery strikes the perfect balance of ethereal cadence and recite-worthy hooks.
With her previous projects like ‘Venus’ and self-titled LP ‘Mileena’ putting her name before a well-versed group of music fans, the unique talent draws inspiration from the likes of Ravyn Lenae, Kelela, and FKA Twigs, as she infuses her neo-soul roots with the electronic soundscape.
“‘Time Spent Running’ was so much fun to make!” Mileena gushes, “We’d just spent so much time working on the album [Mileena], that it only made sense to pop another project out with songs that felt a little closer to who I am now.”’
The EP is layered with lush keys and hard-hitting programmed drums guaranteed to make heads nod, and hips sway upon first listen. Drawing inspiration from engineer and fellow producer Hans Li and Felix Fox, “Another” takes you on a journey through desire and attachment, with thoughtful lyrics and insatiable melodies and harmonies reminiscent of the 90s and 2000s R&B we all love. Mileena offers a fresh take on the sounds of R&B within its current landscape.
