Alt-Pop riser SAPPHIRE returns with the new EP ‘Test Drive’. A testament to resilience and creativity, the EP is a collection of fast-paced and uplifting pop anthems reflecting newfound strength and confidence.
In the face of adversity, SAPPHIRE found solace in the studio, experimenting with different sounds and pushing creative boundaries. Tracks like the explosive , anthemic singles like ‘corvette’ and the dance-worthy ‘crisis’ attest to the joy and liberation she discovered through this musical exploration whilst the intimate, reflective yet glittering bedroom-pop offering ‘dangerously’ gives another side to SAPPHIRE’s writing.
The EP’s focus track and opener ‘wasting my time’, embodies SAPPHIRE’s empowered stance, navigating the challenges of being a woman in the music industry and a Gen Z member. The song captures the essence of self-empowerment with pulsing synths, bopping drums and infectious melodies akin to Sigrid.
Talking about the EP, Sapphire explains: “I started writing this EP last year after experiencing one of the hardest moments of my life. I was getting an insane amount of hate online and it killed me inside. I felt lost, hurt, and completely out of control. I had no ability to remove people’s posts about me and nowhere to hide from it. I knew that the only way I could heal was by creating more music and testing out all sorts of different sounds… Damn, it made me so happy. I’m very grateful that I got to work with people that were happy to play around with vibes and sounds, I felt so much joy every time I went into the studio as I got to test out something totally different every. single. Time.”
Showcasing SAPPHIRE’s impressive vocal range and honest songwriting the new EP is a testament to her potential as an artist, showcasing infectious, effortlessly likeable and relatable songwriting doused in tasteful musicality and earworm melodies.
