Yorkshire-born but now Bristol-based songwriter and incredible vocalist Amy May Ellis shares her fourth EP When In The Wind. It’s a concoction of tracks that elevate Ellis’ honest songwriting talents and leaves you in adoration of her honest narratives and delicate sonic universes.
Opening with “A Fresh Drone“, a track we previously called “blissful”, it’s a refreshing insight into the world of Ellis’ artistry. On “Whirlwind” there’s a weighted thud that feels like a slow heartbeat, which atop lays whimsical instrumentation to make you feel like you’re slowly spiralling into a place where emotions are heightened and sounds are much more intense. Whilst “Weight” is a delicate number that rides smooth guitar twangs before shifting into a rousing melody with a sweet cello line running underneath, “Breathe 2” acts a lullaby where vocal harmonies are pushed to the forefront and really provide the weight to the track. It’s a display of how simplicity can be so damn good & is what Ellis does best.
Closing the EP with the upbeat “Blue Skies”, it finalises a collection of tracks that need your full attention. Yet “Blue Skies” sees the start of a new day, the journey into somewhere or something new. It’s a track that leaves you feeling refreshed and ready for whatever comes at you next.
As a whole EP, Amy May Ellis’ ability to take you through an array of emotions whilst leaving you hooked on every single word is a talent that only a few hold with clear integrity. When In The Wind is a gorgeous body of work from an artist who’s ethereal qualities leave you feeling acknowledged.
