Dutch singer-songwriter Alida, moniker of Anne Weggeman, shares the intimate indie-folk number “Slow Motion”. Dwelling in a glistening pool of warm tones, the single reflects on Alida’s days of being quarantined at sea. Built upon a dreamy guitar melody, her vocals are transcendently evocative.
“Slow motion takes you into a feeling of stillness that I experienced when we were anchored for 2 weeks and there was no prospect of when or how we could go home now that all borders were closed. It describes a kind of parallel universe, far from the crisis the world fell into in the first months of the pandemic. The moment I let go of all fear and uncertainty I became totally absorbed in the present moment, in which I actually experienced a very deep calmness. There were little distractions, hardly any internet, a malfunctioning TV. Days were repeating itself, I only saw the sea. This brought some peace and serenity I never experienced before.”
