London-based, three-piece BERRIES have recently released their new single, ‘Discreetly’, and it’s a track laden with garage rock grooves and zealous attitude.
Produced by Steffan Pringle (Estrons, Himalayas), ‘Discreetly’ is a defiant rebellion against conforming to certain societal ideals. Confident, brazen and with a breakdown worthy of an O2 Arena circle pit, ‘Discreetly’ is anything but discrete. In fact, it’s in-your-face, unapologetic and hard-hitting – the perfect concoction for any group wanting to spit in the face of adversity.
The track begins with meticulous, metallic strumming. Singer Holly’s riot grrrl-esque vocal pounds straight in, accompanied by drummer Lucie’s impressive, abrasive beats. Lauren’s bass is subtle yet effective and carries the track right through to the ascending, blinding breakdown.
These girls know how to write a memorable song. ‘Discreetly’ has understated verses, a catchy chorus and a seismic breakdown, disguised as a meaty interlude. It’s a track that leaves you wanting another chorus afterwards, and when a band leaves you wanting more, you know they’re doing something right.
