SINGLE REVIEW: ‘Whirlpool’ – Bryony Williams

Wolverhampton-born Bryony Williams has only just finished her final year at university. But since finishing her studies, the 21-year-old singer-songwriter has released her newly refined single ‘Whirlpool’.

Having previously performed as part of a Black Country duo called Field Harmonics, Williams is now braving it alone with her up-and-coming EP, Conscious. ‘Whirlpool’, the first single from the EP, is an alt-Americana indie daze. With a mellow beat and warm guitar tones, the track captures the reflection of self-empowerment after an emotion-fuelled break-up.

Williams’ vulnerability throughout the track, alongside her exceptionally English pop voice, details a youthful yellow-hued outlook. Creating the perfect easy listening coastal road-trip track, ‘Whirlpool’ is a warm-hearted tune with a wonderful DIY home-styled video to match.

This track shows Williams’ development as a solo artist and details her journey through personal growth. Crediting influences including Courtney Barnett, Marika Hackman and Patti Smith, it’s easy to see how strong female artists have inspired the young songwriter. Plus, with wanting “to make audiences think twice about the female artist they’re listening to”,it’s hard for Bryony Williams to not be on your radar.
