Edinburgh-based artist and producer Becca Shearing, best known as SHEARS, shares the sparkling new single “Carbon Copy”. It’s a dazzling number that showcases Becca’s versatility as an artist, homing in on her electro-pop sounds and inherent vibrancy.
“It’s inspired by my experiences in the music industry, particularly noticing the rules for women around what they need to be like publicly online and what they can and can’t do on the technical side of music-making. There are a lot of assumptions that women will behave a certain way on social media and be somehow naturally inferior with anything technical. In the past I’ve been told to ‘look at what this woman is doing’ or ‘copy what she’s doing’ but I’ve never felt like it was me – because obviously it wasn’t. The lack of representation, particularly on the production and engineering side, also left me questioning my own abilities – making music myself was never even on the table.”
