Over these last few years, Faroese singer-songwriter jazzygold has established herself as one of the more innovative names doing the rounds. Honing her love and appreciation for R&B-infused soul-pop across a wave of captivating delights in recent months, her tenure to date has been this wildly explorative one as she looks to push the boundaries of her aesthetic as often as possible. And with the buzz surrounding her material continuing to grow, she is now looking to cement her legacy to date with her vibrant debut EP ‘it’s been a while’, a collection that beams with vigour and flair throughout.
Highlighted by the previously unveiled efforts ‘homerun’, ‘gold’, and ‘ex-friends’, this six-track collection finds her in this beautifully alluring guise as it plays. Inspired by her upbringing as one of the only POCs on the Faroe Islands and the conflicts she endured, ‘it’s been a while’ looks to stand as a moment of growth for her, both as a person and as an artist. Moving away from the difficulties she once experienced and using them for her art, jazzygold looks to make a bold and lasting statement with this riveting new outing.
She has certainly turned plenty of heads with her releases over the years, but hearing them all under one roof really captures the inventive nature she has been cultivating. Moving with this subtle elegance from start to finish, ‘it’s been a while’ is a masterclass of overcoming adversity and projecting sheer strength through musical integrity.
