Following the release of her latest single “Emma Blunt”, we got to chat with multifaceted artist Nikki Taylor.

– Your new single “Emma Blunt” has been described as a departure from your previous releases, embracing a vibrant pop sound. What inspired this shift in musical direction?

I’ve always been a cross genre artist ranging from indie, pop rnb and hip hop. I just felt the time was right to cross into the pop space. Creatively this was something I was craving and now I’m here!

– Can you tell us about the creative process behind “Emma Blunt”? How did you and your brother collaborate to bring this song to life? What inspired the lyrics and concept of the song?

My brother and I usually make music together, he’s co- produced my last like 5 songs with me so that process comes pretty natural to us and we work well together. We do live 1300 miles apart  so when he’s home and back in NYC we spend a lot of our time creating.

As far as this song goes we wanted a fun pop vibe with earworm lyrics. The concept behind the song stems from being infatuated with someone. Once they get to know who you are they’re gonna need you… essentially saying you know we could be a power couple, like John krasinkski and Emily Blunt which inspired the title “Emma Blunt”!!

– Collaboration seems to be a key aspect of your music career, with notable partnerships with artists and producers like J. Oliver, Southside, and Wheezy. How do these collaborations influence your creative process?

Ooo I love a good collaboration. When starting in the industry the first songs I did were collaborations. I loved feeding off of other artists/producers energy while in the creative process whether it be separate over zoom or in person in the studio. It’s truly inspiring and fun. Definitely helped me grow as an artist and songwriter.

– With “Emma Blunt” out to the world, what message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from the song?

Yes this song is all about confidence  so just know who you are and realize that whoever it is that you want in your life has to need you. So don’t chase because you are worthy and you are valuable.

– Can you share any insights into your upcoming projects or future collaborations that fans can look forward to?

Of course I can! More shows in near future, and an album which would be my first so I’m super excited for that. No specific future collaborations yet but I’m manifesting and I’m sure the right one will come along!
