Following a string of singles this year, artist néomí releases her new EP before. As an artist with a knack for capturing beauty in sadness and comfort in pain, néomí continues to harness her emotions to create one of the most beautiful EPs we’ve discovered this year. Showcasing her ever-developing sound, the cushioned instrumentation promises to ignite a flame within us all. Get ready to be inspired. We caught up with néomí prior to the release to chat about before, live shows and karaoke.

Hey néomí, tell us one fact about you that we wouldn’t already know.

I have a dog and I ride horses. My party trick: making a very convincing kazoo sound with my mouth. If my singing career fails I think I have a back-up job already made up.

You’re releasing your debut EP this month, are you excited? Nervous? How are you feeling about it?

Well, I think I’m nervous but I’m not too sure. It feels like releasing my first single and I think the feeling is gonna be the same when I release an album. I think with everything you put out there, you are always nervous because you hope people will listen. But yeah, that’s something you’ll never know. I’m also a bit excited actually haha, stepping into the unknown 🙂

You’ve shared a string of releases so far, does the release of an EP feel different?

It feels ‘more’ but not that different to be honest.

Can you tell us more about the EP and its creation?

Well, this EP was written a time ago. All the songs are a collection of moments of me growing up. That’s why it feels really special to see these songs coming alive: on the EP itself and when I play them live. They have a special place in my heart because they carry my growing-up story. The story of ‘before’ growing up, ‘before’ growing older. It was written between the ages of 18 and 21, some tracks alone and others with several close collaborative companions. It was a lovely process. Together with my co-writer/producer Will Knox I went to a wooden cabin to finish things up, where we also made great memories. That all contributes to the feeling of the EP.

What’s your favourite track on the EP and why?

It’s like choosing your favourite child. Which is impossible. Actually…my Mum likes me better than my sister so I’ll choose: ‘i’ll be there’. Joking of course sis 😉 x

If the EP could be the soundtrack to any film, what would it be?

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

Broken Hearted Girl by Beyoncé

Can we catch any live shows soon?

Well, there are lots of things being set up behind the scenes that my manager says I’m not allowed to say yet. But I’ve just finished 4 shows with a band called HAEVN playing to big crowds in The Netherlands and singing some songs on stage with them too which I’ve really enjoyed. On the other hand, I love playing to small intimate crowds and I have a few chances to do that with Sofar Sounds and other acoustic shows over the next few months. I would also love to do a church tour, I played one called De Waalse Kerk in Amsterdam in the past and the natural acoustics really suit my voice.

Thanks so much for chatting!

Well thank you so much for having! Wishing you all the best. And hopefully see you soon at one of those gigs ♥️
