Cheshire-born singer-songwriter Natasha Hemmings has been hitting the road with Ireland’s favourite Ronan Keating. Yet, with a voice like that, she’ll definitely be taking centre stage very soon. As a former Miss England and a classically trained vocalist, Natasha’s passions for music and beauty have drawn parallels on her forthcoming album I Am. We caught up with Natasha to discuss.
Hey Natasha, how has your year been so far?
I have been really excited for 2022 because it seems to be the year everything is getting back to normal and live music has a place again in our lives. So far the year has exceeded my expectations and I feel very lucky to be releasing the album written in lock down and touring with such an incredible artist, Ronan Keating.
As a classically trained vocalist, how has it been for you making your way in pop music?
It has definitely been an interesting transition. I love that music can incorporate so many different styles and techniques and it is often these unique differences that make the most innovative music and so I am enjoying the influence my classical training is having as I journey through the pop world.
We’re really excited for your new album I Am, can you tell us more about it?
‘I Am’ is an album composed, arranged and performed by me which delves deep into moments, memories and events of my life. I found it a really cathartic process in many ways, writing about some of my struggles and difficult times as well as the successes and achievements of my life. It is a really nice way for me to share who I am with my listeners and peel back the layers showing a more vulnerable side to me. Some of the songs have been part written from earlier in my life and they are all little pieces of my past. I can’t wait to share the music with everyone and I hope they really connect to the songs in a way that is personal to them.

Your new album also discusses the ideas of perfection and the impact social media has on us. How do you navigate the world of social media?
Social media definitely breeds judgmental opinions. We often see people living what appears to be a ‘perfect’ life that we so often find is unattainable, which is unhealthy and damaging for young people aspiring and finding themselves. I still find social media a battle myself but I think the best thing you can do is try to put things into perspective and challenge the ‘Perfect’ post that you may find yourself looking at. When someone leaves a negative comment I often click through to their profile to remind myself that it is just one person and it does not represent the opinion of everyone out there, then I will delete it. By removing the comment It stops others from joining in as I often find negativity encourages more negativity.
You’re currently on tour with Ronan Keating, what have you learnt so far?
I have learnt so many valuable skills from watching such an established artist such as Ronan. He has a fantastic stage presence and personal connection with the audience.
Were you a Boyzone fan when you were younger? What would your younger self be thinking of you now?!
Yes! I grew up with those songs being played in my home and on the radio and it is a completely surreal experience to be on tour with Ronan! Both me and my younger self would be pinching our arms.

What does the rest of the year have in store for you?
I hope that the rest of the year is as exciting as the start! Hopefully people enjoy and connect with my music and support my journey by following me on spotify and on my socials @natashahmusic. My career really does rely on the love and support of the fans.
And finally, if you could duet with any artist in the world, who would it be?
I would love to duet with Andrea Bocceli because he really is such an exceptional artist bringing true emotion and passion to his performance, which is the epitome of a great artist.
Thanks so much for speaking to us!
Thank you for asking me 🙂
