If your music was a movie, what would it be? And who would like to play the main roles?
My music definitely has underlying themes like love, yearning, heartbreak and betrayal so it’s hard to pick just one film; some that come to mind are Before Sunrise, La La Land, A Star is Born. I love female characters who are strong and formidable, love hard and go after what they want with everything they’ve got. Emma Stone’s character ‘Mia’ in La La Land or Lady Gaga’s character in ‘A Star is Born’ really resonated with me.
If you could share a stage with someone, dead or alive, who would it be?
Mark Ronson is definitely high on my list of people I’d love to work with and has been for many years. He’s an amazing producer and musician and it would be a dream to collaborate with him.
How did you discover your voice?
I’ve been singing and writing songs since as young as I can remember. My mum was a singer and my dad was a singer/musician and now a music producer. They always encouraged me to sing and perform. I recorded my first song when I was about 9 or 10 years old with my dad and have kept going ever since. My dad and I work together most days in the studio. I feel very grateful to have come from a musical family who have always supported my dreams.
What is your favourite thing about being an artist? (Writing, performing, creative direction etc)
There’s so much I love about being a performer, it’s hard to pick just one aspect. I think the song writing process is very beautiful and cathartic. I nearly find song writing as some form of diary, where I can look back on songs from a few years ago and they relate perfectly to what was going on in my life. I also love to see the song coming together in the studio. It’s amazing to see how different a song can end up from the very first session. Of course, performing live is one of my favourite parts of being an artist. Getting to connect with fans and performing with other musicians is a feeling like nothing else.
Could you talk us through the process of recording your single ‘Love Victim’?
I was contacted by Black Studios in Belfast about recording a track with them. They had the music recorded for Love Victim and from there, I wrote my lyrics and we recorded. It was a great project to be a part of and I really enjoyed working with Jordan and the producers.
How did the feature with Jordan Adetunji come about?
Jordan was also contacted by Black Studios to be a part of the project. Jordan is a very talented artist so it was brilliant to work with him on the track and see it all come together.
In May, you shared your latest single ‘Every Step,’ what is the backstory of this release?
Every Step was such a fun track to work on with my dad. It’s an upbeat pop song with an 80s sound. The lyrics tell a story of meeting someone on the dance floor, love at first sight and dancing the night away. It was a fun one to perform at my last gig with Breaking Sound in Dublin earlier this year.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In 5 years, I hope to be travelling the world performing and connecting with my fans, working with amazing producers and putting out music that feels authentic and true to me.
