Singer-songwriter Darcey Hope returns with the delicate, melancholic and effortlessly infectious new single ‘let you listen to me’, needless to say we’re very excited to be running the premiere!
Having previously reached No.5 in the singer-songwriter charts, the new single once again shows Darcey Hope’s ability to craft captivating songwriting that sits somewhere between pop and indie-folk.
Blending warming, wide stereo panned strummed acoustic guitars and subtle, modulated electric guitar lines, the track creates a Phoebe Bridgers-esque sonic backdrop for the pop tinted vocal line to glide over. Displaying an emotive depth yet also capturing a youthful, playful personality the track grows through its wonderfully loose, stream of thought lyricism.
As the track reaches its second verse, the guitar lines become more pronounced as muted drums, bass and layers of well placed backing vocals enter. Closing with a euphoric middle eight and a gentle final verse, the track is a prime example of interesting yet commercially viable songwriting.
Speaking about the track, Darcey explains:
“I was having an awful spell of writer’s block trying to write a new song, when I listened to Lyndsay Buckhingam’s song exploder podcast episode talking about Go Your Own Way being a stream of consciousness.
It inspired me to throw my ego out the window and write down whatever I was feeling, and I finished the song in 20 minutes. There can be such a pressure to have everything figured out when you’re still young, I wanted to write this song to say we’re all in the same boat. It’s by far my most vulnerable song yet and I’m excited for everyone to hear it.”
Having already appeared on lineups at Glastonbury Festival and 2000 Trees, Darcey Hope has more than established herself as one to watch.
