Nashville-based indie-rock artist Abby Nissenbaum is making waves once again with her latest release, the Alternative/Electronic-Pop-infused single ‘Limerence.’ Following the success of her eclectic debut album ‘Unreliable Narrator,’ Nissenbaum showcases her exceptional talent for crafting explosive soundscapes and relatable lyrics in this latest offering.
‘Limerence,’ a collaboration with renowned pop producer Steph Trivison, introduces listeners to a fusion of 80s-inspired electronic beats, a whirlwind of synths, and biting guitar tones. Striking a perfect balance between lo-fi electronics and indie-rock guitar riffs, Nissenbaum’s understated yet captivating vocals add a spellbinding layer to the track, embracing the poppier side of her evolving musical repertoire.
Explaining the creative process behind ‘Limerence,’ Abby Nissenbaum shares, “‘Limerence’ is a collaboration between myself and pop producer Steph Trivison, known for her work on Amazon Prime, The Grammy Awards, The Golden Globes, ESPN, BBC, the Life is Strange video game series, the Care Bears, and more. We aimed to create a modern indie-pop sound with nostalgic nods to queer synthpop bands of the early 2000s, such as Uh Huh Her. I actually wrote the song on the bass, and Steph sampled the bass line from my demo in the final song, which you can hear as the lead-in instrumental. She crafted some vibrant synth sounds around it, and we added ghostlike operatic background vocals for an eerie, almost deranged feel to the song.”
A lifelong musician with a classical soprano background and experience in musical theatre, Nissenbaum took a detour into social psychology and data analytics before rediscovering her musical roots during her time as a graduate student at the University of Memphis. Her music has gained international recognition, being featured in outlets such as Wonderland, Earmilk, Notion, Clash, Psychedelic Baby Mag, and She Makes Music, among others.
