With Sunrise to Sunset, percussionist, composer, and global rhythm curator Liron Meyuhas offers a rare kind of listening experience, one that is less an album and more a living, breathing cycle. The 10-track concept record, performed entirely live, captures the shifting emotional textures of a full day, from the first glow of morning to the deep exhale of nightfall.
Conceived as an experiment in intuitive creation, Sunrise to Sunset allowed Meyuhas to improvise music at various times of the day, letting the energy of each hour shape the sound. The result is a project that feels organic, mindful, and deeply human — a rhythmic diary mapped through instinct rather than structure.
One of the album’s standout pieces, “8AM Morning Balafone,” embodies the tender transition between rest and awakening. “This is the second track, after the first coffee, stretching the mind and the body and getting ready for the day,” Meyuhas shares. That sense of gentle expansion is woven into the fabric of the piece through an immersive palette of instruments: balafon, congas, udu, singing bowls, bells, and an array of subtle shakers and textures. It’s music that rises like sunlight, quiet at first, then warm, intentional, and full of breath.
Meyuhas has long been recognised as a trailblazer. Known as Israel’s first female Hang drum artist, she has spent nearly two decades weaving global rhythm traditions into a cohesive and personal sonic language. From West African drumming studies in Senegal and Guinea Conakry to jazz in Italy, Arabic percussion in Sinai, and frame drum traditions in Turkey, her musical identity is a mosaic of cultures, techniques, and philosophies.
Her career spans continents, performances in the U.S., Brazil, India, Russia, and across Europe; collaborations with artists like PEIA, Kutiman, Estas Tonne, Jose Peixoto of Madredeus, and the Yasmeen Godder and Batsheva dance companies; and stages as historic as the Rome Colosseum. Since 2019, she has represented both Meinl Percussion and Meinl Sonic Energy, becoming the first Israeli artist to do so.
With Sunrise to Sunset released through Shoulder Tone Records and distributed by The Orchard (Sony Music), Meyuhas distils everything she has learned into a sonic meditation on time itself. Across 35 world percussion instruments, she turns every hour into a voice, every shift in light into rhythm, every still moment into resonance. It is a concept album in the truest sense: philosophical, intentional, and deeply felt.
