EP REVIEW | Liza’s “Done Is Done”

Toronto-based R&B artist Liza unveils her honeyed EP DONE IS DONE. Built with sugary-sweet harmonies and golden tones, the EP is an exploration into the lifecycle of a relationship – something that’s both relatable and extrememly evocative.

Opening with the ballad-like track “JULIANNE POTTER” introduces you to the EP’s rhythmic stylings. It’s a slow-pop single drenched in lush guitar tones that provide a cosy warmth. With “ROLLA”, the R&B beats underscoring her effortless vocals capture something incredibly special. Capturing the excitement at the beginning of a relationship, the smooth sailing sonics produce a moment of bliss ahead of the trouble that’s about to occur.

On “LANSDOWNE”, Liza assesses the failures of the relationship with a nostalgic, 00s melody line that keeps you hooked. With its honeyed vocals and simplistic guitar pattern, the single is a reflective piece that enables you to unwind with its tender nature. Whilst “MEMORIZE FEELINGS” provides a sultry offering, a track that looks further into desire and intense love, it’s EP closer and title track “DONE IS DONE” that finalises the relationship cycle. With the realisation that some mistakes cannot be fixed, the track’s slowness and foley sounds of rain falling ramps up the emotive heights of the single.

Liza’s EP is brimming with silky R&B hues and elegant vocals that send you into a hazy state of mind.
