Lucky Iris, the dynamic alt-pop duo from Leeds, has returned with their latest electronic sensation, ‘blowing kisses’, released on July 7th. The single is a tantalising glimpse into their highly anticipated EP, maybe i’m too much, set to drop on August 11th. With a reputation for crafting unique and infectious soundscapes that can make you both dance and shed a tear, Lucky Iris once again delivers a musical experience that leaves an indelible mark.
Described as a “cotton-candy kick in the face” the duo’s lyrics are a testament to their exceptional songwriting prowess. Their ability to create multi-faceted soundscapes that effortlessly blend the joy and pain of love and friendships put to a bright and accessible intellectual alt-pop backdrop.
The new single immediately draws comparisons to the iconic School Of Seven Bells, but Lucky Iris infuses their distinctive fresh-faced and youthful energy into the mix. The track revolves around a vibrant and ethereal soundscape, where glitching electronics, mesmerising vocal samples, and pulsating electronic drums intertwine with an ethereal sea of analogue synths.
Front and centre, the silky and breathy lead vocals exude a melancholic tone, contrasting beautifully with a shimmering sense of ease. It’s this delicate and enchanting vocal delivery that forms the heart of the track, wrapping the listener in a captivating embrace of infectious melodic hooks.
As true musical auteurs, Lucky Iris took the reins in crafting ‘blowing kisses’, both writing and producing the song. The duo enlisted the expertise of acclaimed professionals to ensure a polished result – with Richard Wilkinson (known for his work with Adele and Kaiser Chiefs) in the mixing chair and Antony Ryan (of Oh Wonder fame) mastering the track. The result is a mesmerising addition to Lucky Iris’s already impressive repertoire.
Beyond the studio, Lucky Iris has been captivating audiences since their live performances commenced in September 2021. Their tour has taken them to various cities, including Leeds, London, Liverpool, and many more, where they’ve supported esteemed acts like Stealing Sheep, Real Lies, and the Lottery Winners. The duo’s talents have also been showcased on prestigious festival stages, such as Live At Leeds, Long Division, 110 Above, and most recently, The Great Escape.
‘blowing kisses’ is a testament to Lucky Iris’s ability to craft electronic alt-pop gems that resonate deeply with listeners. With the forthcoming EP maybe i’m too much on the horizon, there’s no doubt that Lucky Iris’s star is destined to shine even brighter in the ever-evolving world of music.
Speaking on the track the band share:
“ I overheard someone say; ‘a crush is just a lack of information’, and I just couldn’t get that out of my head – but I refuse to see a crush as just that because it just takes all the fun out of it, doesn’t it?! ‘blowing kisses’ is about having a crush. It’s about that point where it turns into something more, because unlike that stranger implied, the more information you learn about your crush, the more you end up falling for them. It’s about hanging on every word they say, being out and only being able to see them. And when they say your name, that feeling you get each time, it’s like the first time anyone has ever said your name… I guess it’s an ‘if you know you know’ feeling… if you do you’ll understand and if not, know it’s a precious song about being desperate to know what that other person is thinking.”
