Revenge rarely begins with just an explosion. More often, it starts as a thought that refuses to leave, growing steadily sharper each time the betrayal is replayed. And on her latest outing ‘Willpower’, Boorloo/Perth artist ALEIA captures that dangerous incubation period with remarkable precision, turning wounded trust into a dark, slow-building grunge-pop track that feels both deeply personal and quietly threatening.
Following her 2025 debut EP ‘Public Humiliation’, the single pushes ALEIA’s emotionally direct songwriting into more severe territory. There is anger here, but it is never careless. Instead, the track moves with the unnerving composure of somebody who has considered every possible response and is still deciding how far they are prepared to go.
Producer Dylan Ollivierre gives that restraint a suitably tense framework. A subdued synthesiser hangs over the arrangement like bad weather, while isolated guitar, glowering piano and a marching snare gradually tighten the atmosphere. Each element seems to wait, circle and gather force until the song’s eventual rise feels like an inevitable reckoning.
ALEIA’s vocal performance sits at the centre of that tension. Her delivery remains intimate enough to preserve the hurt beneath the rage, but shifts in rhythm and emphasis reveal how rapidly reflection can tip towards retaliation.
‘Willpower’ is gripping because it allows fury and fragility to remain inseparable. Its guitars and percussion promise catharsis, but the unease never fully lifts. Even at its most forceful, the song understands that revenge cannot restore what betrayal has taken.
