Future Bounce’s Sola shares her new single “The Score”. Written on the 25th anniversary of Stephen Lawrence’s death, Sola channels the fragility of life, brutaility against black people and the violation of women into the song’s striking melodies. Layered with calming harmonies and Sola’s hushed vocals, the single sees lyricism driven from pain and honesty. It’s a powerfully reflective track that truly represents the artist that Sola is.
“Much of the lyrics to ‘The Score’ are about revenge, but also recovering from trauma, and how to live with pain. I wanted to strip the song back in an acoustic live performance. The song is incredibly personal and vulnerable, so the setting of the church helped reflect the rawness and emotion. I wrote the song alone at a piano, so the video was a chance for me to recreate this moment in a live environment.”
