What do you get if you put the names Annie and Hannah together? ‘Hannie’ of course! But don’t get this name-merging duo confused with X-Factor’s identical twins Jedward, as Hannie could certainly teach them a thing or two, or three (or four, or five, or six….) about music. And hairstyles, while we’re at it… no quiffs to be seen here at all.
Anyway, I digress. The self-confessed “multi-instrumentalists” showcase here their debut single, ‘Cosmic Bound’ featuring Carys Selves on vocals.
‘Cosmic Bound’ produces, and has been impressively produced, by Hannie themselves, and creates an extremely clean and a heavenly pop sound.
Tying in with Selves commercial vocals, the song has a very marketable and pleasing vibe. It’s nothing that is going to change the world, but something that will almost certainly fill up the radio airwaves. Respectfully, it’s inoffensive and infectious at the same time.
Hannah Koppenburg and Annie Wagstaff, rather commendably, produce, write and handpick how they write and how they work – it is refreshing to know that they do this without the help of anyone else and they are clearly aware of what sells.
When speaking about their project they say, “your gender should never get in the way of doing what you love and working hard. It’s weird, but there doesn’t seem to be anyone doing what we are doing, which we find really exciting. We want to be a step towards putting more girls, as musicians, in the music industry. This is the most fun we’ve ever had, and can’t wait to share these tunes with everyone.”
Something that definitely should be highlighted is that Hannie do have incontestable talent, alongside their varied instrument repertoire, so it really does make them stand out in this industry today.
