Q&A: LUNE

Linnèa Martinsson is a Swedish electro-pop artist that goes by the stage name LUNE. After releasing her critically acclaimed debut album Music & Sports back in 2013, LUNE has finally returned with new single ‘Don’t Speak’.

We caught up with the singer to discuss new music, her time with Swedish House Mafia and more.

How does the Swedish music scene differ to that of the UK in your opinion?

I don’t really know. I don’t really think that much about where music comes from… I’m a child of the internet.

What pushed you to create your own label?

It was an urge to get rid of the filters between me and the audience. I want to be able to stay in the creative bubble right up until release. I want to work intuitively and to not be too strategic about things.

Do you hope to sign other artists to it in the future?

Maybe! I don’t know? Right now it’s only Lune and the future is for later.

‘Don’t speak’ has definitely got a place on my summer playlist. What was your original inspiration to write this track?

Nice! LA was like a sauna the day we wrote the song and it was hard to think of anything but warm sweating bodies.

The video to this song feels so intimate as well, why is creating a direct link to your audience so important to you?

I’m glad that it feels intimate to you cuz I wanna be close. The direct link is about a flow in the communication between me and the listener. I wanna be able to whisper directly in your ear.

After the release of your highly acclaimed debut album, can we expect another one in 2019?

I’m too impulsive to think like that. The minute I finish a song I will release it. What I do know is that a lot of new music will be released this year and next.

How did you get involved in Spotify’s Equalizer project? Why is this such an important movement in the music industry, in your opinion?

I’m super excited to be a part of Equalizer! I’m grateful that they took notice of me. I met so many new friends and ever since the first meeting, amazing things keep happening to me.

What was it like working with the Swedish House Mafia and do you hope to collaborate in the future?

It was awesome! I love them, especially Seb! He was very important to me at the time. He made me believe in my own madness.

Anything you’d like to add?

The next song I’m releasing is a song called ‘Talking Truth’ and it was recorded in the ‘Abba studio’ in Stockholm. One day Benny Andersson walked into the studio. He gave me so much love and complements for the song that it made me blush. Three weeks later I find out that it was just some random guy with a beard. A person looking exactly like Benny Andersson in Benny Andersson’s studio, what the hell was I supposed to think!? It broke my heart! I’m such an Abba fan.
