Q&A Interview – Danielle Lewis

Danielle Lewis is an exciting, Welsh singer-songwriter who is currently gearing up for the release of her eagerly anticipated new EP Live Forever – released on July 6th via Lewis’ own label  Red Robin Records.

Here we discuss the release of the EP, Cardiff’s music scene, future plans and more.

How are you finding it to be releasing music to a wider audience?

Danielle Lewis: I am very excited. I took a little time off from releasing to really focus on what I wanted to create next. I’ve been working on these songs for a couple of years now and was lucky to meet my producer Secondson. He works to incredible detail and utilises instruments in such a subtle and unconventional way.

Do you feel Cardiff being officially named as a Music City will help the industry grow further?

Danielle Lewis: Definitely so. I feel very proud to be among the thriving music scene here. There’s so much great bands and artists coming through and coming in, exciting times for everyone!

Do you feel that there needs to be more work done to create more opportunities for musicians and people in the industry to succeed in Cardiff and Wales overall?

Danielle Lewis: There’s been so much happening with all the great festivals such as Depot in The Castle, Independent Venue Week, Tafwyl, Welsh Music Day and Cardiff Women in Music week. There’s always something going on.

Your new EP will be released this July – what is the overall vibe of the record?

Danielle Lewis: It’s very ethereal with lots of delicate layers. Powerful and striking.

Is there one song in particular you’re excited for fans to hear?

Danielle Lewis: I am looking forward to sharing ‘Live Forever’ as the music video, plus there will also be a special remix of the song by Cian Ciaran from Super Furry Animals. An exciting collaboration!

What do you hope listeners take from the EP?

Danielle Lewis: As with anything I write, I hope they can relate to the music and let the sounds drift them away.

Do you have any plans for a full length album?

Danielle Lewis: I have started writing new material, so who knows!

Do you have any touring plans lined-up?

Danielle Lewis: I would like to see the EP going to the live stage soon. I’m currently rehearsing with the band so it won’t be long I’m sure.

What are your long-term career goals?

Danielle Lewis: To release an album and take it on a large tour.
