Q&A: GLOWE

Despite only being 21 years old, Londoner Georgia Lowe, best known as GLOWE, is a budding pop artist in the making. Making her debut last year and since building fans across the globe, GLOWE is an artist glimmering with ambition. Her debut EP Daughter is out now so we had a little chat about what the world of GLOWE is like right now.

Hey Georgia, how have you been?

Hey!! I’ve been good thank you. It’s a struggle being stuck in lockdown BUT I have to be grateful that I have my health.

Your next single “Better Than You Do” is out now, what’s the story behind it?

It’s about a really intense, passionate relationship. The kind where you want to rip each others heads off most of the time but that fire is what keeps you going. It’s about the push and pull of a modern day relationship.

It’s underlined with a real funky bassline, what inspired the sound of this single?

So I wrote this song with Dan D’Lion and we actually started the whole song off with the bassline. He was playing around with some synth sounds and I was like ooo yes lets go with this and work around it. Even the lyrics and subject matter stemmed from this initial bassline. It sounded so powerful and passionate, the storyline just sort of formed in my head from that.

What artists continue to inspire your art?

I take inspiration from all types of artists and genres. Particularly In this EP I think you can hear influences from my love for dance music, with the heavy basslines and darker elements. More specifically, Dua Lipa, Lolo Zouaï and Miraa May are all artists that I look up to and feel a connection with.

Your debut EP is coming out soon – how does it feel to be releasing a whole collection of songs at once?

It feels great! I’ve only released singles previously and to have a whole project out is a new, but rewarding feeling. I worked with a different producer for each track so I feel like each tune has a slightly different vibe, tied together with a ‘Glowe’ sound. Sculpting your sound and developing as an artist is definitely a journey but with this EP, it feels like a step in the right direction.

What’s the world of GLOWE like at the moment? Anything you’ve been doing during lockdown to stay occupied?

I’ve been lucky enough to spend this time with my family as I’ve moved home for now. It’s pushed me to finally setup a home studio which is something I’ve been putting off for a while so I’ve been working remotely from here . Aside from that, my day consists of walking my dog, eating everything in sight and playing my Animal Crossing.

What’s the one song you can’t stop listening to at the moment?

I LOVE Tierra Whack at the moment. Her song Hungry Hippo is such a banger. It sucks that its only 1 minute long but I guess that’s the point. It’s supposed to leave you wanting more.

Finally, home workouts or Netflix binges?

Netflix binges for sure. I’ve done a couple home workouts, but with no summer this year I guess I’m just not that bothered about the summer body haha.

Thanks so much for talking to us!
