Four Of Diamonds are a new pop group with a limitless amount of potential. Their debut single ‘Name On It’ has over 1.2 million combined streams across various music platforms. A promising start for the first girl-group to sign to Virgin EMI since The Spice Girls. And now, the four-piece has followed up with the fun and carefree party anthem ‘Stupid Things’.
LOCK spoke to Sophia, Yasmin, Caroline and Lauren of Four Of Diamonds to discuss the new single and more.
Hello Four Of Diamonds! Congratulations on the release of new single ‘Stupid Things’. How does it feel to have it out in the world?
Lauren: Thank you! It feels incredible. We love this song so much, we are just so excited for everyone to hear it and hopefully love it as much as we do!
When writing the track, did the creative process differ from when you made ‘Name On It’?
Sophia: We’re fortunate enough to have worked with some incredible songwriters and producers. Stupid things was produced by Cutfather, who’s worked with artists such as The Pussycat Dolls and Kylie Minogue. With both singles, as soon as we heard them; we loved the vibe and how relatable they both were. We all knew they were special, so we had to have them.
Tell us about how you all met?
Caroline: We met just over two years-ago, when we were put together by Fascination Management. We have basically lived together ever since we moved to London in April 2017. We still find it incredible how we found each other and have created such a strong sisterhood!
Four Of Diamonds are the first female group to sign to Virgin EMI since the Spice Girls, pretty crazy huh?
Yasmin: It’s crazy. We were all obsessed with The Spice Girls when we were younger and still are now… which makes it even more surreal! It’s such a huge compliment and it really shows how much the label believe in us. We’ve got big shoes to fill. They’ve set the bar high but we’re pretty good climbers!
Who would be your dream collaboration?
Lauren: Okay, so we all have a slightly different take on this. My dream collaboration is Beyoncé because I am obsessed with her. I know Yasmin would love to collaborate with Post Malone, Caroline with J.Lo, and Sophia’s would probably be Alicia Keys!
Four Of Diamonds appeared on the X-Factor in 2016, it’s fantastic to see the group still going strong. Looking back, what advice would the group give to their younger-selves?
Sophia: Thank you! It’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind when your career is riding on your every little move… everything’s so fast paced, you don’t often take the time to sit back and just enjoy the experience to the fullest.
So we would say to just soak it all in, enjoy it and make the most of every second because the opportunities you get are once-in-a-lifetime and before you know it it’ll fly past.
Name one fun fact about each member…
Caroline: Yasmin has ten brothers and sisters. Lauren was in an advert for Furby when she was ten. Sophia is a test tube baby. I am bilingual in both Spanish and English!
If you weren’t in music, what would you all be doing career wise?
Yasmin: Hmm, if we weren’t in music, I reckon I’d be a makeup artist or fashion stylist; something that’s still related to the music industry and that I enjoy. Sophia was studying Bioveterinary science so she probably would of been a vet. Caroline would of been an entertainment lawyer and Lauren would of worked in musical theatre.
Finally, what’s next for Four Of Diamonds?
Lauren: We’ve had the best time putting together our first record; we’ve recorded so many amazing songs and we cant wait to keep sharing them with everyone. We’ve also just announced our first set of live shows; we’ll be performing both our singles and loads of other brand new songs when we hit the road in November. We’ll be going to Birmingham / Manchester and London – starting on November 7th. Tickets are out now!
