Abbie McCarthy’s ones to watch 2019

A New Year means resolutions we don’t stick to, but also, lots more new music! Here is a rundown of the female artists looking set to take over the world of music over the next 12 months:

Hamzaa

A rich, soulful voice, heartfelt songs and a captivating live performer – the future is looking very bright for this young lady.

Glowie

I’ve had her track Body on loop since I very first heard it – an alternative & addictive blend of pop goodness. This 21 year old Icelandic popstar is poised and ready to slay 2019.

Celeste

One of the best new voices I’ve heard recently – Celeste is world class. If you’re a fan of the likes of Jorja Smith, Amy Whinehouse or Macy Gray, this is your new favourite artist. The Brighton-based lass is already signed to Lily Allen’s Bank Holiday Records and is a name lots of people will know the world over very very soon.

L Devine

Your new favourite popstar – she’s cool AF, she speaks about real issues and makes total bops. Check out her debut mixtape Peer Pressure and you’ll soon be a fan too.

Girl in Red

Girl In Red is the stage name of Norwegian popstar Marie Ulven. She’s been busy creating pop songs at home since early 2015, but last year saw her videos gather a huge amount of views online. Marie speaks honestly about her sexuality in her songs and that is really connecting with people worldwide.

Arlo Parks

Newcomer Arlo Parks tells stories through her music and it’s both beautifully poetic & captivating.

She’s been busy in the studio recently working with various writers & collaborators so keep your ears open for more from Arlo Parks in the near future…

This girl is the queen of the big pop chorus! Turn your speakers up as loud as they can go and blast out Emily’s sassy pop bangers.

Beabadobee

Beabadobee is Bea Kristi, an 18 year old songwriter & guitarist, who makes lo-fi pop tunes in her bedroom. She is the most recent signing to Dirty Hit Records, the label that has brought us the likes of The 1975, Wolf Alice & Pale Waves.

Grace Carter

I had to include Grace Carter in my Ones To Watch list for 2019 as she is a little superstar in the making. Her debut EP Why Her Not Me is superb and we can’t wait for more high quality tunes to emerge into the world.

Biig Piig

What a name and what an artist! The 20 year old rapper and singer’s music is hard to define by genre but lyrically it’s raw, honest and simply brilliant.

Dodie

Not only a Youtube sensation but a truly incredible artist. It feels like she’s really in her stride with recent releases Human & If I’m Being Honest so I’m looking forward to more greatness from her in 2019.

YEBBA

Yebba’s powerhouse vocals have really shone through on tracks she’s featured on by the likes of Sam Smith, Chance The Rapper, A Tribe Called Quest and Rudimental. She sings every song with pure, unadulterated emotion, so you can’t help but take notice of every word. YEBBA is a very special artist.

Mahalia

Mahalia started out performing at open mic nights in Leicester when she was only 13 years old, she’s now transformed into an exciting and authentic artist who makes awesome neo-soul, mixed with a big dose of slick R&B production.

Maisie Peters

Maisie released her six-track debut EP at the end of last year, Dressed Too Nice For A Jacket, and it’s a stellar body of work. I can’t wait to see what she does next.

Joy Crookes

Remember this name because she’s going to be talked about a lot this year. Her hypnotising singing voice will soon have you all under her spell.
